Stay on the Course, Above the Bay
Mercure Portsea is a 24-room boutique hotel on the golf course at Portsea Golf Club, 90 minutes from Melbourne at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula. Most rooms open onto a private balcony or terrace facing the fairways, the coastal dunes or Port Phillip Bay.
Guests stay like members: course and clubhouse access, with the pro shop and first tee a two-minute walk from your room. It is the only hotel in Portsea set on a publicly accessible links course.
The club originated in 1926. A century on, the fairways below your balcony carry the work of Arthur Relph, Alex Russell, Sloan Morpeth, Mike Clayton and, most recently, Ogilvy, Cocking and Mead, whose renovation widened the fairways and reshaped the greens.

Couples and travellers
Dinner in Sorrento, the Millionaire’s Walk before breakfast, and a balcony to come back to. You do not need to play golf to stay.
Families
Calm bay beaches minutes away, the forts and tunnels of Point Nepean to explore, and three room types so everyone in the family is comfortable.
Why Stay On the Course?
Staying at Portsea Golf Club puts the golf course, the clubhouse and Point Nepean at your door, with Sorrento only minutes away. You get member-style access to a private links course, free parking, and tranquility that Sorrento village accommodation cannot offer. If your weekend is built around golf, beaches and walks rather than nightlife, this is the better base.
Exploring the Mornington Peninsula
Portsea sits at the Peninsula’s tip where Port Phillip Bay meets Bass Strait, so the region’s best is minutes away. After your round, our team’s picks:
Beaches
Calm bay swimming at Portsea and Sorrento front beaches; wild surf and the London Bridge Lookout seascapes at Portsea Back Beach.
Point Nepean National Park
Fort Nepean, the Quarantine Station and clifftop trails, right next door.
Sorrento and Portsea villages
Five minutes to Sorrento’s dining scene, from beachside fish and chips to some of regional Victoria’s best restaurants. The Portsea Pub is closer still.
Hot springs and wineries
Peninsula Hot Springs is 20 minutes away, the region’s cool-climate wineries a short drive up the coast. Guests also have gym access at Re-creation Health Club Sorrento.
Further afield
The Sorrento to Queenscliff ferry connects to the Bellarine and the Great Ocean Road.
