As part of the club’s centenary the opportunity has been taken to bring up to date the club’s recorded history. This work has been produced as an on-line resource that will be accessed through the club’s web site via the “Centenary” tab.
To build this resource the club engaged author Peter Hanlon. He has made extensive use of the work that Syd Thomson undertook in recording the club’s first 75 years in the book “Within a Bulls Roar”. To complete the 100 year story, in addition to documenting key events that have occurred over the last 25 years, Peter has gathered fascinating stories from life members, 50 year members, presidents and captains and others from both inside and outside of the club. To complement this written story there will also be videos of life members and others who have had a major influence on the club embedded in this resource.
In addition to the work of Peter Hanlon the club has engaged its course architect Michael Clayton to firstly write a foreword this story of the club’s 100 years and secondly to provide some historical context to the course and to provide commentary on the playing of each hole.
The stories and events will be bought to life over the next 12 months. They will be released in a series of editions which will incorporate a main story along with other matters of interest. Once all of the editions have been released the club will be left with a rich resource of the club’s history which can be accessed and downloaded as required. It will also provide a capability to be updated on a periodic basis as the club moves forward into its second centenary.
We will also use this resource to capture how the club celebrated its centenary capturing stories and photographs of the social and golf events that will be held during 2026.
Overall this is a great resource to see how the club got to 100.
Enjoy!!
